Trouble Getting Your Tractor or Semi Started in the Winter?

Maxtron Enviro Edge 5W-40 Full Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil

is your Answer.

This relativly new Cenex product has been receiving positive feedback from customers. They seem to really like the cold flow properties compared to a 15W-40 or 10W-30 and they tell me that their equipment starts much easier at colder temps. Considering that most engine wear occurs at startup, using an oil that lubricates quicker and easier at startup prolongs your engine life.

This is also a full synthetic product, which allows you to extend your drain intervals. For example, here at PLC we were changing the oil (15W-40) in the grain division's semi's every 10,000 miles. We tested the Maxtron Enviro Edge 5W-40 by extending the drain intervals and sending samples to the lab to make sure the oil was holding up. As a result, we are now on 25,000-30,000 mile oil chage intervals. Triple the oil life for only 50% more cost means you save money too.

What is Your SPCC Plan?

The EPA has pushed the date for compliance with the new SPCC regulations back to May of 2013. There have been many questions on this topic so here are a couple things you should know.

  • According to the regulations, tanks must have secondary containment. This means double walled tanks or tank dikes.
  • You need to have a spill plan in place.
  • We will be having a session on this topic at the PLC Annual Meeting on Feb. 21st.

Department of Energy Inventory Report

Charting the Market

Heating Oil (Daily): Heating oil (diesel) has been making its way back down towards the $2.70 level once again. The market has tried to reach that level 3 different times already, once in June, August and most recently in October. Each time heating oil has retraced back to those levels it has set a lower low and the market is setting itself up for another chance at settling below the $2.70 mark for the first time since February 11th.

Topics Impacting Today's Energy Market

  • GDP: U.S. real gross domestic product for the third quarter was revised to an increase of 1.8% annualized from the earlier estimate of a 2.0% increase.
  • MasterCard Spending Pulse: U.S. retail gasoline demand in the week ending December 9th fell by 4.4% on the year. The report showed that the price of gasoline fell by 2 cents to $3.27 a gallon last week.

  • OPEC: OPEC has stated that crude production in Iran is decreasing due to lack of investment in an environment with difficult sanctions from the U.S. and others are likely lending some support to crude oil markets.
